3 of the best ways to prep your hair for your wedding day
One of the most common questions we get from brides is how they can prep their hair for us to style it for their big day. With a combined 10+ years of experience, we’ve learned all the in’s-and-out’s of bridal hairstyling.
Here are three easy ways to prep your hair for your wedding day style:
Instead of washing hair the day of, wash your hair the day before. If you must wash the day of, use minimal conditioner and mousse (more on this later.)
The day before the wedding, consider getting a blow out. Blow outs are a win-win, as you get a pretty style for your rehearsal, plus great bouncy volume for the big day. Pro tip: make sure you contact a salon who specializes in blow outs! I recommend Sexy Hairs H2NO dry shampoo to absorb any excess oil in the hair.

Use a mousse (quarter size, focus on roots to ends, blow dry out) the day before or the morning of (as mentioned above.) Think of the mousse as a good “coating” for the hair - it helps so much when in forming flawless curls with a curling iron. Mouse also helps maintain a lasting curl shape throughout your wedding day (and well into the reception.) My favorite mousse is Kenra Extra Volume #17. (See Below)
A few extra things to note:
*For fine hair, I always suggest using a volumizing shampoo and less conditioner than normal, and also using a micro crimper at the root/base. A micro crimper expands the cuticle and allows the hair to feel super full.
*For extremely wavy/curly hair, I suggest washing as listed above (don’t over-condition) and going for a blow out. If you worry about frizz, worry not! As professionals, we know which products to use on your hair the day to tame pesky frizz and flyaways. At the time of your trail run, we’ll be able to guide you to the best prep for your hair type. People with curly hair have some of the best texture to work with. It’s all about working through layers with the right anti-frizz brushes, thermal round brushing to soften pieces around the face and using anti frizz products. One of my all time favorite frizz-taming products is Sexy Hair’s “weather proof” humidity resistant spray.
No matter your hair type, these simple tips will ensure a better foundation for your stylist to bring your wedding day hair style to life.
